Seiji Shimoda (1951) is one of the most active, internationally recognized Japanese performance artists, founder and organizer of NIPAF – Nippon International Performance Art Festival since 1993, which has become one of the most influential festivals of the global performance art community, promoting artistic exchange and dialogue about performance art.

In his works, he combines action poetry, performance and movement with a unique use of simple objects in addition to the central role of his body, such as chopsticks, a table and a chair.

Since graduating from Osaka City University in 1977, his performances have been featured in more than 100 international festivals in over 30 countries in Western and Central Europe, North and Central America, and Asia. In addition to his artistic, organizational and curatorial activities, he has been a lecturer at Musashino University of Art in Tokyo.

He participated for the first time in Romania through the ETNA Foundation, under the main organization of Gusztáv Ütő, in the AnnART – 5 IN/DIFFERENT Trench Art Festival in Lake St. Anna, and in the international exhibition MEDIUM 3 at the Sfântu Gheorghe Art Gallery, and in 2011 he was invited to the tájMisztika (LandscapeMysticism) art camp in Zabola.
