Enlarged ear, altered spatial experience, increased focus on the present
15 minutes meditation with headphones and microphones
If we talk all the time, we don’t hear what others are saying. According to a meditation technique, we can shut our inner mouth when we start to listen to the sounds around us. Sounds carry information, but in this exercise, that’s what we need to ignore. Letting sounds be just sounds, meaningless murmurs, noises, listening to them as if they were music.
With the Fonexoscope performance we invite you on a guided journey through the soundscape, where the auditory focus is as much on the sounds around us as on our position in them. Listening blurs the boundaries between the self and the environment, and thanks to the blending of frequencies in real time, participants are opened to a new perception. The shared sound experience aims to develop acoustic awareness, to define ourselves and the effects around us in the sounding space, to slow down and immerse ourselves in the sonic layers of our environment. For this seemingly simple but in fact complex task we use microphones, headphones and meditation techniques.
The performance features a continuously running sound installation (Saturday 15:00 – 17:00, Sunday 12:00 – 15:00), which you can join every 15 minutes. The experience lasts 15 minutes.
Participation is free, no pre-registration required.
In case of bad weather, the event will take place on the stone stage in Libertății Square.
