◄enjoy your Friday evening dinner at MAGMA Contemporary Art Space, surrounded by the artworks of Ferenc Gróf and Zsófia Gyenes, as part of their current exhibition titled An Iceberg of One’s Own►
MAGMA Contemporary Art Space is commemorating Galați-born artist Daniel SPOERRI, renowned worldwide for his snare-pictures—assemblages of post-meal remains fixed into horizontal compositions and displayed in a vertical position—with a banquet event titled DINNER SWAP. By blending dining situations with visual art, Spoerri pioneered the art movement known as Eat Art.
Daniel Spoerri passed away on November 6, 2024. In his memory, and as a tribute to the first exhibition in Romania to showcase original works by the artist—Daniel SPOERRI: Digesting the Past – Eat Art and Object Art, curated by Gergely Ligetfalvi at the MAGMA Contemporary Art Space in 2018—the spirit of Spoerri’s banquets will be revived for one evening in a unique format on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM.
The evening draws inspiration from the Spoerri Restaurant, which the artist opened in Düsseldorf in 1968 as both a conventional restaurant and a permanent art happening. However, unlike Spoerri’s original concept, this banquet will feature a unique twist: the audience will bring their own meals to the table.
The dishes prepared in advance by the guests will be placed on a communal table and numbered by the hosts. The dinner will then be assigned by drawing lots, allowing each guest to enjoy the dish corresponding to the number they draw from the pot.
Participation is limited, and while dinner is free, registration is required. To secure your spot, PLEASE COMPLETE THIS FORM by Friday, December 6, 2024, until the last minute before the event starts, subject to availability.
Guests who have already registered are kindly asked to bring their meals in separate containers. We warmly recommend bringing your own plates and cutlery for personal use. Glasses and drinks will be provided by the hosts, but guests are welcome to contribute to the drinks selection.
Participation and consumption during the event are at your own risk. The organizers reserve the right to alter the program. All participants are welcome; however, we cannot guarantee a dinner swap for guests with special dietary requirements, except for those following a vegetarian diet. The expected duration of the event is approximately 2 hours.
The event will be documented through photos and videos, which may be used by MAGMA on its online and offline platforms to promote its activities.
The exhibition will remain open to the public throughout the event.
We welcome all registrations!
